DAYTON AEROSPACE, INC., NAMES DAWN McGARVEY-BUCHWALDER, FORMER AFLCMC AIRWORTHINESS OFFICE BRANCH CHIEF, TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
- Dawn McGarvey-Buchwalder retired from the Department of the Air Force (DAF) as the USAF Airworthiness Office Branch Chief. She joined Dayton Aerospace as a senior associate in 2016.
- Effective 1 November 2023, McGarvey-Buchwalder joins the board of directors as vice president, a role recently vacated by David J. Waite, Sr.
DAYTON, Ohio – 1 November 2023 – Dayton Aerospace, Inc., an executive management and technical services firm headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, announced today that effective 1 November 2023, Dawn McGarvey-Buchwalder, GS-15, Department of the Air Force (DAF) (retired), has been named vice president and member of the Dayton Aerospace Board of Directors. As a company partner, McGarvey-Buchwalder will assist the president, Chris Coombs, in shaping the strategic direction of the firm. In addition, she will continue to provide Dayton Aerospace customers with valuable technical and programmatic support.
McGarvey-Buchwalder is a seasoned, senior engineer with over 30 years of experience working with every USAF-owned platform across all phases of the acquisition life cycle. She is nationally recognized for her specialized expertise in airworthiness, systems engineering, human systems integration (HSI), life support, and crew systems. Throughout her career at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), McGarvey-Buchwalder partnered extensively with the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps engineering, logistic, and research organizations and collaborated with national and international militaries, governments, and commercial offices to enhance relationships and data exchange and optimize delivered products for the user.

McGarvey-Buchwalder will fill the role vacated by David J. Waite, Sr., following his retirement. Waite dedicated over 37 years to the firm, serving as the company’s business manager. He was named to the board of directors in 1999. In addition to Coombs, other board members include Lieutenant General Robert McMurry, USAF (retired), Major General Dwyer Dennis, USAF (retired) and Tom Wells, a retired member of the Senior Executive Service. Waite’s day-to-day business manager duties have been integrated into a newly created general manager position filled by Leslie Henry, formerly director of operations.
