Major General, US Air Force & Industry Executive (Retired)

Major General Rob Bongiovi, USAF (Ret), has more than 40 years of management experience planning, developing, producing, fielding, and sustaining advanced technology defense systems. He has a proven record of delivering at the highest levels of effectiveness and efficiency in both government and industry and is regarded as a successful, customer-focused leader with demonstrated strategic planning, organizational, communication, business, and people management skills. General Bongiovi retired as the deputy director of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and is the former president of the Robbins-Gioia, LLC Defense Division.

Significant Career Accomplishments

  • Provided assessments and recommendations to the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) program executive officer (PEO) for JPO manpower and the chief engineer’s organization and led a team of senior personnel supporting F-35 life cycle sustainment planning and implementation.
  • Enabled the transition of revolutionary technology into a new operational system, the F-117 stealth fighter.
  • Created simplified defense acquisition process as part of elite team reporting to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition (OUSD(AT&L)) which streamlined reporting, reviews, and documentation and linked requirements, programs, and budgets. Reduced reviews by 50% and eliminated 60% of existing policy directives and instructions.
  • Reshaped 8,000-person Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) workforce into customer-focused product groups. Implemented sharing of technical and business resources and reduced program scrap and rework.
