Artificial intelligence (AI) offers a powerful capability for automating manually intensive analysis and documentation tasks required to solicit and award contracts. But AI systems are only as “smart” as the data they consume, and someone needs to ask the right questions. The below article that Tom Wells co-authored with Jonathan McGugin looks at a new procurement analyst discipline recently adopted by the U. S. Air Force: the contract data specialist (DCS). The CDS not only understands contracting policy and processes, but also applies data analytics, utilization, and visualization skills to develop tools, improve training, and leverage the potential of AI to expedite/streamline the contracting process.
